Alternative Treatment Studies in Groupers Diseases

Yasemin Bircan Yildirim

Abstract

Grouper fish are genera of the subfamily Epinephelinae of the family Serranidae, in the order Perciformes. Grouper is a cultured teleost that is highly economically important in China, Taiwan, and other Asian countries. A disease in this fish population was triggered by the high magnitude of environmental contaminants, abrupt rise of water temperature predation.  Bacterial diseases and viral  infections  are major  limiting  factors  for  grouper  culture, and  several  bacterial  pathogens  are noted to have caused major problems for grouper aquaculture. Appropriate antimicrobial therapy and protection measures are very valuable in terms of preventing the spread of the disease and its effects. Uses of antibiotics can cause the emergence of a number of serious side effects, resistance development among bacteria and cause economic losses. Immunostimulants dietary supplements plant products, prebiotics and probiotics can improve the host defense mechanisms of many aquaculture aquatic organisms. Therefore, it is necessary to investigate and improve culture performance, and produce new antimicrobials as feed supplements for fish culturists and aquaculture in general as therapeutic tools against bacterial infections. There will be a presentation on the researches related to this topic.
